Sermon by Pastor Tom Brown · May 31, 2026 · Colossians Series

Colossians has taught us that we should pray – faithfully, watchfully and gratefully.

The letter also teaches us what we should pray.

It’s great to pray “God bless my kids.” God loves that kind of prayer. But what does that look like? What kinds of blessings should we ask?

In his letters, Paul trains us for prayer both by modeling what to pray and asking for specific requests.

In Colossians 4:2-6 I see 3 specific prayers, all related to our mission as ambassadors for Christ.

1. Pray for open doors for the gospel. (3)
2. Pray for clear communication of the gospel. (4)
3. Pray for everyday opportunities for the gospel. (5-6)

Would you take some time right now and pray for our missionary friends in Japan?

Let’s pray for open doors and clear presentations of the gospel for the Ewings and their fellow laborers among the Japanese people.

And let’s pray for ourselves. Let’s ask God for opportunities for gracious, salty, everyday gospel conversation.

Maybe today you will have an opportunity to influence a coworker, neighbor or a cashier for Jesus. May we be ready with a gracious word!
