Sermon by Pastor Tom Brown · Oct 07, 2018 · The Crooked Lot Series

The grand opening of our new Children’s Ministry wing was a solid success Sunday morning! It was very encouraging to gather our little ones on the stage and pray before we sent them down to their new space.

Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching.

Proverbs 4:1-2

During the sermon we looked at Proverbs 4 and discussed the sacred role of parents as guardians of the heart of a human soul. Can anything be greater than that? Solomon’s words to his sons in the book of Proverbs provide us an example of a father who diligently sought to guard a child’s heart through his teaching. In chapter 4 we saw that a guardian father takes on the role of instructor in his kids’ lives.  (1-4)

  1. As an instructor he acquaints them with the beauty and benefits of wisdom. (5-9)
  2. He acquaints them with the paths of darkness and righteousness. (10-19)
  3. He acquaints them with the danger of drifting. (20-27)

And most importantly, he is acquainted with the grace of Jesus Christ, the Wisdom and Power of God who has more than enough strength and wisdom when ours fails.
