“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8
On Sunday we continued our series on the Holy Spirit. Our main take away was:
The Holy Spirit is the power to witness for Jesus.
As humans we are either operating off of our own natural power or the power of God – through the Holy Spirit. We are always witnessing for something. The things we believe, proclaim with our mouth, and display with our actions point to what our lives are powered by. Additionally, it is possible to be busy doing work “for” Jesus without having ever been doing work “with” Jesus.
If you are worn out this week may I suggest the following three applications from Sunday morning:
- Wait for the Holy Spirit. Take some time to slow down and ask God what He might want you to be focusing on this week.
- Respond to the Holy Spirit. When God answers your prayer for direction, opportunity, or clarity then respond to it. Maybe it is simply thanking Him for reminding you of Truth. Maybe it is calling up a friend you have been praying for and setting up a time to share the Gospel with them. It might even be that you need to apologize to your spouse. Either way, do not quench the Holy Spirit’s prompting and power!
- Repent when not depending on the Holy Spirit. If you are anything like me you find yourself often attempting to operate on your own terms and power. We have a gracious God who will not give you what you deserve and desires to give you more than you could imagine. I am tired of attempting to do things “for” Jesus by my own power. I want to do life “WITH” Jesus on His terms through His power.
