Sermon by Pastor Tom Brown · Apr 28, 2024 · Mark Series

When Jesus gave the disciples the Great Commission mandate, he told them to wait.

So many times before this, when God called someone for a work, he sent them to obey by faith. “Go! Do the work. I will be with you.” The power came with the going and doing.

But this time it was different.

Jesus told them to wait for the power and then to go.

“And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

– Luke 24:49

The power necessary for the fulfilment of the Great Commission came during a prayer meeting.

This is the way it has always been. History shows us that the great works of God in and through his people come after prayer.

Prayer, then power.

This year we are devoting ourselves to prayer. The first priority is to know and enjoy God. The second is to partner with him in the greatest adventure in the history of the human race.

What will happen if we devote ourselves to prayer? I intend to find out!

Here are 4 ways you can take a step of faith in corporate prayer:

  1. Come early on Sunday mornings at 9:20 for our fast and furious pre-service prayer.
  2. Come to our monthly second Sunday prayer gatherings at 4PM.
  3. Come Friday mornings at 8:30AM to pray through the Lord’s Prayer.
  4. Keep an eye out for announcements like the city wide National Day of Prayer gathering tomorrow night at 7PM.
