The 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence is an opportunity for us to reflect on the history of this nation and the future our children will inherit.
America’s history is not perfect, but it is good. And the truths our nation was founded upon are really, really good.
To the extent that we are faithful to those truths, we will be good.
As I revisit the founding documents and writings of our nation I see one striking quality that saturates our origins – the fear of God.
It’s there in the journals, the meeting minutes and the central documents – a profound sense of reverence for God, of total dependence on his mercy and of trembling responsibility before him.
That fear of God is no longer prevalent in our public places. But it is there.
It is with us at Vintage Faith. And many churches throughout our city and nation. May it grow and become a mighty flood.
Friends, let us continue in prayer for our country.
May God be gracious to us, may He forgive us our many sins and may He bring a renewal of faith and reverence to this nation!
