This morning we will study Mark’s account of the prayers of Jesus in Gethsemane.
It’s one of the most deeply moving passages in the Bible.
I’ll never be able to grasp the magnitude of what Jesus endured that night.
But here’s what I can understand:
Because Jesus bore humanity’s deepest sorrows alone, I don’t have to. (32-34)
Because Jesus suffered as he submitted to God, he is able to help me in my battles to obey. (35-36)
Because Jesus chose men who couldn’t pray for one hour, there is hope for me in my weakness in prayer. (37-42)
Jesus prepared himself for his trials by praying through into an iron resolve to obey the Father.
What might have been different for Peter if had done the same?
Knowing the grace of Jesus in Gethsemane comforts me in my struggle and fortifies me for victory.
