In Daniel 2:24-49, the crisis brought on by Nebuchadnezzar’s dream was resolved. Every step of the revelation highlighted God’s sovereign agenda to humble the proud and exalt the humble.
The method of revelation – a young exile from the Jews comes forth as the only man in the kingdom who can give and explain the dream. When he does he is clear – no human can do this, “but there is a God in Heaven who reveals mysteries.” (verse 28)
The message of revelation – all human kingdoms will pass away, all human pride and power will be shattered when the kingdom of Christ is fully established for all time. “It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever” (verse 44)
The impact of revelation – the roles are reversed. The king of Babylon is on the floor bowing to the young exile from Jerusalem and giving glory to his God. ““Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.” (verse 47)
At the end of the story Daniel has been exalted to a place of enormous influence and has brought his 3 companions up with him.
I am inspired by Daniel’s humility and by the outcome. God truly opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
