Today we continue our slow walk through the Lord’s prayer. We’re moving from “Father” to “Father in heaven.”
Here’s a few things we can learn from the Scriptures about what it means to say our Father is in heaven.
- God is there. (Deuteronomy 4:39)
- God is transcendent. (Genesis 14:22)
- God is sovereign. (Psalm 115:3)
- God is great and holy. (Ecclesiastes 5:2)
- God hears from heaven. (2 Chronicles 6:21)
- God’s children are citizens of heaven. (Philippians 3:20, Colossians 3:1-3)
When we say, “father in heaven” we pray with affection and with awe. We pray with freedom and with reverence. We remember that God has all the time in the world. We remember that he is untroubled by the pressures of this world. We remember that our life and well-being are hidden in heaven with Christ in God.
