In a construction project a significant amount of time is invested in getting everything just right with the first piece – the cornerstone.
When the cornerstone is level, straight and square – everything else falls into place around it. When the cornerstone is off, the whole project is compromised.
In the Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11) Jesus gave us the foundation of prayer. That foundation has a cornerstone.
When you pray, say “Father.”
The Fatherhood of God is a revolutionary and wonderful reality. God is Creator, He is Lord, He is Judge and He is King. But through the cross and and the sovereign act of adoption – God is also Father.
In a courtroom, you stand in honor for the judge. That honor takes on a whole new dimension when the man you are standing for is also your father.
At work, you submit to the will of the owner with respect. That respect takes on whole new dimension when the boss is also Dad.
In a royal palace, no one would dare wake a head of state at 3AM to ask him for a cup of water – unless that one is his kid.
When the cornerstone of prayer is “Father”, a new dimension of love and warmth floods our prayers.
The cornerstone of prayer is “Father”.
The essence of fatherhood is love. (Luke 3:22, 1 John 3:1, Ephesians 1:4-6, Romans 8:15-16)
When you pray, say “Father”.
