In Mark’s account of the unjust trial of the Sanhedrin, we see the darkness and brutality of the human heart at its worst.
In Peter’s denial of Jesus, we see the weakness and insufficiency of the human heart at its best.
And in Jesus’ suffering, we see the perfect love, righteousness and power of the heart of Christ.
When at our worst we are horrified by the darkness and brutality in our hearts,
when at our best we are weak and insufficient,
when what we see in humanity all around us casts us down in despair,
we can look to Jesus and find hope.
We can courageously follow in his steps as we put our trust in Christ alone.
